MOSES KOTANE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY’S RESPONSE TO THE OUTBREAK OF CORONA- VIRUS (COVID-19)

Following the address by President Ramaphosa who declared a National state of disaster as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak in our country, on the 16th March 2020 the Moses Kotane Local Municipality Management called an urgent meeting with the Department of Health COVID-19 Response team.
The Moses Kotane local municipality is taking serious this medical emergency of the 62 declared positive cases of coronavirus outbreak in South Africa. Given the scale and the speed at which the virus is spreading, the Municipality through Disaster and Occupational Health & Safety units have partnered with sector departments, private sector in helping the municipality to prepare for, respond to, and mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 so as to keep its internal and external stakeholders safe. Noting that the health and wellness of residents and employees is the municipal main priority.
As part of the collective effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19, both internal and external stakeholders are encouraged to implement the following precautionary measures that include:

  1. Regularly wash their hands with soaps or disinfectants.
  2. Avoid physical contact such as shaking hands & Hugging.
  3. Cover ourselves when we cough.
  4. Meetings/ Gatherings of more than 100 are prohibited.
  5. Intake of Vitamin C is highly recommended for boosting the immune system.
  6. Businesses to implement safe hygiene practices etc.
    The municipality have also aligned with the Department of Health’s intensification of novel corona virus awareness activities which include advocating more health promotion and health awareness information to be cascaded to all the 107 villages and two townships.
